The trap of "Islamophobia" to muzzle our freedom

"Islamophobia": a trick word to muzzle freedom

A word invented to prohibit criticism

The word Islamophobia seems, at first glance, to designate a form of hatred towards Muslims.

But in fact, this vague word is a semantic trap , an ideological weapon forged to prevent any criticism of Islam as a religion, ideology or political system .

Historically, this term was promoted since the 1980s by the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamist movements, with a strategic objective: to equate any criticism of Islam with racism , and thus silence secular, feminist, universalist, or simply republican voices.

Behind the word, the threat of the return of blasphemy

In France, the crime of blasphemy was abolished in 1791. The Republic put an end to this religious crime to guarantee freedom of expression and criticism of dogma. But today, under the guise of "fighting Islamophobia," attempts are being made to reintroduce it through the back door .

To say that a drawing, a caricature, a critical statement about Islam is “Islamophobic” is to ask for its censorship .

It is criminalizing debate, humor, free thought.

It is imposing a form of religious sacredness in the public space , incompatible with secularism.

What this word prevents from being said

  • That one can criticize a religion without hating its followers.

  • That Islamism is an authoritarian and liberticidal political project.

  • That women, apostates, sexual or religious minorities suffer from the application of Sharia law in many countries.

  • That the Republic does not have to submit to religious injunctions.

A weapon of the Islamists, taken up by useful idiots

The use of the word Islamophobia is not insignificant: it was intended to delegitimize criticism, reverse roles , and portray Islamists as victims. Many, through naivety or cowardice, use this word without realizing the consequences.
Meanwhile, fear sets in , teachers censor themselves, journalists keep silent, artists give up.

To resist is to refuse trapped words

At SurMavie, we refuse to give up our freedoms so as not to “offend.”

We refuse to be complicit in an ideology which, under the pretext of fighting racism, seeks to impose its religious law .

We affirm: to criticize a religion is not to hate.

It is thinking freely.

It is a fundamental right.

It is a pillar of the Republic.
